I am the most grateful in life for the family I was born into and the faith I recevied from my parents. Even though I am not marrying when I thought, I never stopped jokingly asking God, What happened with my rib Lord? And he blessed me with an answer on the calling of Beatriz and I to holy matrimony.
What most influenced me in noticing Beatriz are all the grandmotherly advice dotted unrequested by grandma Chuy, I guess I prentended to reject it as a kid but it found a place in my heart. I am pretty sure grandma Mariquita's prayers and advice to observe how my future partner treated her parents had something to do with me waiting until I found Beatriz, the person I chose as my partner, an amazing daughter.
Beatriz and I met a few years ago through our common friend group at University of Arizona (go Wildcats!). It was great to get to know her as a friend and slowly notice all her great qualities. I think at first what most caught my attention was her curious mind, a conversation with this beautiful lady would quickly span centuries and continents from Plato's Greece to Mexican history to the beautiful trova lyrics of Silvio Rodriguez.
At the time I was a month away from moving to San Francisco, we only got to go out on a couple of dates. Perharps on a moment of courage a stolen kiss confirmed our chemistry. These small seeds, the size of her heart and the warmth of her smile kept me thinking of her at a distance.
The next few years I focused on my career, and knowing she now was in a relationship I kept my distance. But as time passed I kept thinking of her, and kept tabs on her status. In my mind, if she ever was free, I would land in Tucson that following weekend.
To keep this story short, I had to wait a few years until she finally accepted a dinner invititation on a January evening. We continued to chat at a distance and around mid-year we formalized our relationship. I jokingly tell her I lost my independence that fourth of July. It was about time!
After two years of long distance dating and a once in a century pandemic we got engaged in October 2021 and now... we ask for the honor of your presence in our wedding!
